This is such an insightful deep dive and I really loved reading this one! I recently tried one of those apps out of curiosity and was surprised to find I’m a ‘soft summer’ (jury’s still out, to be honest I was convinced I am a “cool winter”). I’m treating it more like a gentle nudge than a hard rulebook. It’s helpful for curbing the ‘buy all the colours!’ instinct, but I’m still going to wear that one rogue orange or black piece I love.
Thank you! It’s so interesting how the results we get differ from our own ideas of what’s flattering. Totally agree that colour analysis should be seen as a gentle nudge rather than be taken as a rule!
I loved this post! As a fellow soft-Autumn, I was initially devastated by my results for a couple of reasons:
1) I LOVE bright colors and I love black. I wanted to be a Bright Winter SO BAD!
2) I find our colors a little boring and dull.
Unfortunately (or fortunately?) after months of thrifting specifically for our palette and truly not swaying at all in my purchases… I’ve found it to be accurate. I really do look better in those colors!
I made it easier on myself by putting a screenshot of my palette as my cell phone background. Now before I’ve even gotten the opportunity to fall in love with something not in my palette, I hold the arm up to the color swatches. If it doesn’t belong, I put the item back. It makes thrifting (all shopping in person, probably), much, much easier.
Finally, I’ve decided that while I will do my best to keep “my colors” near my face, if I find a skirt or pants or shorts in a color I like better but that isn’t exactly in my palette, it’s free game as long as I can pair it with a couple of tops I already own that *are* in my palette. It’s a work-around that works for me!
The tip of having your colours saved on your phone to help guide you when you shop is so smart! I'll be implementing that immediately!! I also really love what you're saying about keeping your colours near your face, but incorporating colours you like but aren't in your palette in your bottoms.
Thank you so much for such an insightful and wonderful comment! You're giving me hope that I can make being a soft Autumn work for me.
I think sitting with your results for a while is a good idea. Try the pieces you own in that season and see how you feel. If you don’t own anything, consider why. Try some things in a different season and see if they feel better or worse. I see a lot of brightness in you, so would have guessed spring, and I think the two bright green pieces you’re wearing in your pics supports that.
Thank you! I feel very drawn to the spring colours so I'll keep playing around with what I own and maybe try to incorporate more Autumnal colours. But I'll definitely be sitting with these results and not rushing into any new purchases!
I love this! I did mine with your instructions and I'm a True Autumn, which makes so much sense. Orange-red is everything to me, and now I know why!
